These rules govern participation in Cartoonvision Animation Contest™ 2027. By submitting an application, applicants agree to comply with the rules and requirements outlined below.
Cartoonvision Animation Contest™ 2027 is an international animation competition culminating in one Grand Final. A total of 20 animated works will compete in the Grand Final.
Nineteen participants will be selected by the contest organizers from all eligible applications. The twentieth participant will be selected through a public audience vote from three candidates shortlisted by the organizers.
The public vote to determine the twentieth participant is planned to take place during the week preceding the Grand Final. The voting period, voting procedure, and announcement of the selected participant will be communicated through Cartoonvision's official channels.
The contest is open to animators, filmmakers, independent creators, production companies, and animation studios worldwide.
Animated films and other completed animated projects of any duration are eligible for submission. Eligible formats may include animated short films, feature-length films, series episodes, pilots, and other completed animated works.
Applicants must have the necessary rights and permissions to submit their work and authorize its use in accordance with these rules.
Films containing creative content generated using generative artificial intelligence (AI) are not eligible to participate in Cartoonvision Animation Contest™ 2027. The competition celebrates animation created through human creativity and artistic work.
Applicants must disclose the use of generative AI when completing the application form. The organizers may request additional information about the production process to verify eligibility.
Applications must be submitted through the official Cartoonvision application form. Applicants must provide accurate information, a working link to their animated work, and all other required materials.
The application fee is €5 per submission. Payment confirmation must be provided as part of the application. Submitting an application does not guarantee selection as an official participant.
The organizers will select 19 participants from the eligible applications. Three additional candidates will be shortlisted for the twentieth place, which will be decided by public voting during the week preceding the Grand Final.
The organizers will communicate selection results and further participation instructions to applicants through the contact details provided in their applications.
Applicants must submit a completed animated work that can be accessed and reviewed by the organizers. Scripts and unfinished projects are not accepted as completed submissions.
Selected participants may be asked to provide additional presentation materials, including a short competition clip, still images, a poster, a trailer, or other materials required for the contest programme and promotion.
Any additional materials, technical specifications, and submission deadlines will be communicated to selected participants in advance.
By applying, participants must confirm that they have the necessary rights and permissions to submit their animated work and authorize Cartoonvision to use the submitted materials for the purposes specified in the application terms.
Subject to the permissions granted by the relevant rights holders, Cartoonvision may use excerpts, still images, trailers, posters, and other promotional materials from selected films to promote the contest on its official website, social media channels, and other official communication platforms.
Participants selected for the competition must authorize the screening or broadcasting of their films as part of the official contest programme, in accordance with the permissions and terms agreed to during the application process.
All intellectual property rights remain with their respective owners. Participation does not transfer ownership of a film to Cartoonvision.
A live Grand Final in Lisbon, Portugal, is currently planned for June 2027. The venue and final arrangements have not yet been confirmed.
Further information regarding the event format, dates, venue, participant attendance, stage presentations, and technical requirements will be communicated once the arrangements have been finalized.
If the live event is confirmed, selected participants may be invited to attend in person and represent their films on stage. Participants will receive information about the expected dress code and other event requirements in advance.
The initial application fee is €5 per submission. This fee covers the application process and does not automatically include travel, accommodation, clothing, hairstyling, makeup, or other expenses associated with attending a live event.
Depending on the confirmed event format and available funding, an additional participation fee may be required for selected participants. Any additional fee, its purpose, payment deadline, and included services will be communicated before participants are asked to commit to the additional payment.
Applicants should not assume that travel, accommodation, clothing, hairstyling, makeup, or other personal expenses will be covered by the organizers unless this has been explicitly confirmed in writing.
The Grand Final results will be determined by a combination of professional jury evaluation and audience voting, with each contributing 50% to the final result.

The jury voting procedure and scoring system will be communicated through the official contest materials.
Audience Voting:
Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite participating films according to the voting instructions published by Cartoonvision. The audience voting results will contribute 50% to the final result.
The rules, opening and closing times, and procedures for audience voting will be announced through official Cartoonvision channels.
The participant receiving the highest combined score from the professional jury and audience vote in the Grand Final will be declared the winner of Cartoonvision Animation Contest™ 2027.
The winning film will receive the official contest trophy and certificate. The entire Cartoonvision 2028 edition is intended to be dedicated to the 2027 winning film, which will also be featured across Cartoonvision's official media channels.
Participants will receive certificates recognizing their participation or placement, in accordance with the arrangements announced by the organizers.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all information supplied in their applications is accurate, that submitted links remain accessible, and that they have the necessary rights and permissions for their submitted materials.
Participants must follow the competition rules, submission instructions, and deadlines communicated by the organizers.
The organizers reserve the right to verify applications, request additional information, and reject submissions that do not meet the eligibility requirements or violate the contest rules.
The organizers may make reasonable changes to the competition schedule, procedures, or event arrangements when necessary. Any significant changes affecting participants will be communicated through official Cartoonvision channels.
Decisions regarding eligibility, selection, and the administration of the contest will be made by the organizers in accordance with these rules.
